Our take

These sit at opposite ends of the market entirely. Unitree's R1 is the most accessible humanoid around: a lightweight 1.23 m, 29 kg developer robot with 26 verified joints, in stock and shipping, starting at $4,900 for the R1 Air ($5,900 for the standard). It single-handedly pushed the category's entry price under five thousand dollars. Boston Dynamics' Atlas is the opposite proposition — a 1.9 m, 90 kg industrial humanoid with 56 joints that is not for sale at all: it is announced, offered only to select early adopters and pilots (a version is slated for Hyundai by 2028), with no public price. So there is no real head-to-head on cost, because only one is buyable. If you want to actually own and tinker with a humanoid today, the R1 is the clear practical choice; Atlas is a glimpse of high-end industrial capability you cannot yet acquire at any listed price.
